We are currently hiring a Shop Runner. This is a FULL TIME position with a salary of $50k for 35-40 hours a week (roughly $25/hr). You will be our point person for the front-of-house of our business: interacting with customers, handling small to medium sized purchases, running Magic: the Gathering and Pokémon events, and curating a friendly and welcoming environment.

You will also use our e-commerce systems such as Shopify, eBay, and in-house proprietary software. Optionally (and preferably), we can train you up to help contribute to our back-of-house/tech side. This is a great job for someone who is interested in trading cards but also wants to learn generally useful ecommerce, programming, and database skills.

About us:

We opened in early 2024 and have seen our monthly revenue grow more than 500% since opening. Our store is profitable and growth has been surprisingly steady.
We have a wonderful and dedicated community of card collectors and game players that form the backbone of our shop. Our shop has a virtual community on Discord that is highly used.
We prioritize a relaxed and high quality shopping experience. We don't do pressure-based sales. Our environment is open and welcoming, while being highly organized so customers can find what they want.
We are consistently looking to improve our experience and are always tinkering with new things—from new product lines to better ways to present cards for shopping.

Must haves:

Knowledge of either Magic: the Gathering OR Pokémon, and a willingness to learn the other one. This position requires someone who is familiar with trading cards and is willing to get up to speed on both MTG and Pokémon. You will be overseeing both MTG and Pokémon events.
Ability to work with customers and represent our business. We distinguish ourselves by providing excellent service and facilitating people finding what they want.
Willingness to be a team player and contribute to our overall goals. This means sometimes we will do things differently than other stores, we need someone who is willing to execute our store's vision.
A general desire to just make things better. Our motto is "we don't need to be perfect, we just need to get better." In the long run, continuous improvement beats starting off with a lot of knowledge or resources.

Nice-to-haves:

If you have some knowledge of sports cards, that would be awesome.
If you want to learn about programming or databases or tech things in general, that would be awesome.
If you have previous game store experience, that is a plus (but again, we do things differently than a lot of other game stores so be prepared to learn even if you do!)

We are offering a $400/mo healthcare stipend. We are a tiny business so we don’t offer healthcare yet, but we want to help you pay for it.

Overall, our business is growing and we’d like you to help us grow it! Although we obviously cannot promise it, our intention is to keep growing. As such, the person who takes this position will participate in that and have the opportunity to grow in responsibilities (and pay!) if we keep expanding.
